The Southern California Law EnforcementTorch Run for Special Olympics began in 1987. Officers of Santa Barbara County have looked in several ways to raise money for athletes of SB County.  We started with Tip-a-Cop dinners and selling t-shirts.  In 1999, we held the first Bull Canyon Run.  It was just a 10K and we decided to use Bull Canyon Road, because it was easy to close the road for the run and it provided a nice run through the country side.

With no idea what we were doing, we held the run and 95 runners came out and the feedback was great.  We did our best to take care of the runners and provide them with a great running experience.  In order to re-open Bull Canyon Road by 9:30 AM, we will discontinue the 10K walk in 2010.  In 2011, we brought back the 10K walk.  We will also limit the number of entries to 1,500, so register early before it sells out.  In 2012 we added a Kid's .5K. Chip timing is here to stay!  2013 - Added the Kid's 1K Run.
We feel this is the best run in the Santa Maria Valley. Our goal is to provide a safe run and take care of our runners.  We have had participants from Alaska, Missouri, Connecticut, Florida, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Hawaii, Washington, Illinios, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia, Georgia, Delaware, Florida, Arizona, Germany, Romania, London, Brazil, Israel, Oslo Norway, Afghanistan, Anguilla, and Papua New Guinea!

Each participant receives a great looking event t-shirt and our medals are identical to the logo.  Each person who crosses the finish line gets a medal.

If you like to run, or just want to come out for a nice walk in the country, come out to the next Bull Canyon Run.
